As far back as I can recall, California has been considered the mecca for cutting-edge residential architecture. After all, not only is it the perfect climate and location for many people, but that’s where style was born, right? If you had a property anywhere on the west coast, you were a trendsetter for the rest of the country.

That may have been the case in the past, but I firmly believe true architecture resides in Texas. And as more and more homeowners choose to relocate here, they need to understand how much of an upgrade they are getting with their living space. Not only is there variety, but Texas is spot-on when it comes to plan flow, function, room relationships, style, options, et cetera. The list really does go on and on.

We meet with homeowners all the time at the ML Group, whether they’re native to Texas or not, and one thing we hear the most is they really want something different.

Here are three reasons why they will be the envy of the country:

  1. The home values are better – Texas and California are two of the largest states in the union, but the cost of living on the west coast is exponentially higher. That can handcuff you and your budget. The phrase “you get more house for your money” couldn’t be more accurate in Texas.
  2. Creative options galore – I’m not trying to be rude here, but it can get repetitive seeing stucco Spanish-style roofs in every neighborhood. In Texas, you aren’t locked into a specific design or style, so if your neighbor has a Texas Hill Country look and you want Modern Farm House, then go for it. The plan layouts and styles native to this area give homeowners the chance to find their style and own it.
  3. Tradeoffs – Many parts of the country are known for having basements. We obviously don’t have basements in Texas, but there are quality tradeoffs that add a level of unrivaled architecture to your property, including more outdoor living options, functional laundry/mud rooms, and master bedrooms downstairs instead of upstairs.
